Hello everyone welcome back to my blog! A while back I posted a blog about Concealer FAQs. Now this blog is sort of a continuation of the previous one.

Today I’m going to highlight all the common mistakes we do when we buy and apply a concealer. Now I’m no expert here myself, but I know my makeup, so I’ll try to cover as many mistakes as I can and if I miss out on something, I’ll be happy to hear ya’ll out

1.CHOOSING THE WRONG SHADE!

Now most women do not know how to pick out the right shade of concealer. Is it a shade lighter than the foundation, or a shade darker, or the exact same shade as the foundation? These questions mainly occupy our minds when we go out and buy makeup!
Fear not though, because I have the answer! The rule of the thumb is to choose a shade or two lighter than that of your foundation. Lighter shades cover up the imperfections perfectly and does not look obvious on the skin too.

2.REMEMBER TO CHECK THE UNDERTONE!
This is something that I kept on emphasising in my previous blog about undertone affecting the makeup. Your undertone affects the makeup you put on your face, foundations and concealers especially! So whenever you are out buying a concealer, you must know what undertones your skin has so you can buy a product that is made for the specific undertones.

Secondly it’s not just about your undertones, the concealers have their own undertones too. Have you ever heard about color correcting? In a nutshell, it’s a technique used in makeup to use a mixture of different colors with your imperfections in order to cancel out the effect on both the colors, giving you an even skin tone so that the imperfections don’t show! Color correcting again is achieved with the help of concealers f different colors. Look for what your problem area is, if its redness, go for a concealer that has the undertones which color correct the redness, however if your problem area is dark circles and spots, opt for a concealer that has undertones that mask the dark circles.

3.DON’T FORGET YOUR FOUNDATION!
Mostly when women are heading out, and they do not want a full face of makeup, they skip their foundation and instead just apply a layer of concealer under the eyes or on the face to cover up the redness. Or sometimes, women don’t have a clear idea of when to put the concealer on, before or after they have applied their foundation, and so they apply concealer first and covering it up with foundation.

What happens in such cases is that firstly you have to keep in mind that your concealer is a few shades lighter than your foundation, which makes it way lighter than your skin tone, so it’ll show! It’ll look obvious that you have applied something on your face, and it’ll oxidise with the passage of time, and you’ll end up looking grey in the areas where you’ve applied it.

Secondly, when you don’t apply foundation, there’s no medium for the concealer to blend into. You see the concealer is actually a little thicker and more pigmented than the foundation, which requires it to be applied over a layer of makeup so that it can blend in smoothly, without having to be obvious. On its own, the concealer will never blend out easily, and instead of having a flawless mask, you’ll have disastrous makeup on all day long!

4.DON’T GO CRAZY WITH THE APPLICATION!
Being honest most of us learn to put on makeup by watching youtube gurus. Now 95 out of a hundred would cover half of their face with a layer of concealer. What they are actually doing there, is not just hiding imperfections, but they are also brightening up those parts of their face, so when the lights hit them, they have a certain glow which would look really appealing in camera.

In real life though, you don’t need to paint your entire face with concealer just to even out imperfections. Trust me you’ll look like your face is caked up! And you really don’t want that to happen, do you?

So apply only as much or as little as you need, this again depends upon the imperfections you have.
5.DON’T FORGET TO BLEND AND SET!
It may seem to some like forever, but blending a concealer is a matter of seconds! Use a brush, a makeup sponge, or your own fingers! It doesn’t matter as long as you get the job done perfectly! I personally blend my concealer with my makeup sponge and my fingers! This is totally dependant upon your personal preference. Blending is important because if you won’t bled properly, the concealer will never be able to perform a nice job!

The final step is setting! Always always always set your concealer using a setting powder! This is something you do not want to argue upon. It’s just basic makeup 101 that you need to know. Whatever the label of your concealer says, creaseless, or crease proof, it will crease! No matter what, but you can avoid that by setting your concealer. So in order to prevent the concealer from gunking up under your eyes, you need to set it using a setting powder.

So this concludes the most common mistakes we make when it comes to buying, and applying concealer! I hope this was helpful, do let me know what you want me to write next in the comment box below, or send me an inbox on Facebook! Your feedback, suggestions and complaints are always welcome
